The rapidly evolving field of computer technology has had a dramatic impact on the architectural/engineering professions. The Computer-Aided Design Specialist Career Studies Certificate was created to meet the contemporary graphic needs of architectural and industrial design firms. This program provides the student with thorough training in two- and three-dimensional computer graphics, including studies in visualization and animation.

Considerations When Selecting Courses

Degree progress can be obtained by starting DRF-231 in the Summer prior to the Fall semester. Hermitage High School has a dual enrollment opportunity that would enable students to complete 4 of the seven courses prior to graduating from high school.

  • Create a schedule for all required courses, pay attention to prerequisites and when courses are offered, complete your first math and English courses in your first year
  • Connect with an advisor at your community college and J Sargeant Reynolds Community College within your first year
Program Requirements Beyond Specific Courses ITE-115 is an acceptable alternative to CSC-155
Doing More With Your Degree Students can obtain employment in a design office or subcontractor's office. Some examples include: Architectural firms, Engineering firms, Construction offices like a home builder developing plans, Subcontractors doing Fire System design, Electrical design, Swimming Poll layouts, producing fabrication drawings for reinforcing steel, structural steel, special ceilings layouts, bleacher layouts and any number of activities that support the construction process.
Program Successes & Highlights Students will be able to sit for the AutoCAD and Revit Certified User Certificate and potentially obtain Professional User Certificates in those two software programs. There are many opportunities in this field to make meaningful contributions to the built environment.
