Associate of Applied Science Degree in Administration of Justice

The Administration of Justice curriculum is designed to prepare individuals for careers and positions of leadership in the field of criminal justice. Supported by a broad general education component, the curriculum is structured toward the development of professional proficiency in the career fields of law enforcement, corrections, security, and wildlife management and enforcement. This curriculum is applicable to both the preparatory student and the experienced officer. Articulation agreements and transfer information are available for those students who intend to continue their education beyond the community college level and into four-year colleges or universities.

Considerations for Selecting Degree The Administration of Justice curriculum is designed to prepare individuals for careers and positions of leadership in the field of criminal justice. This curriculum is applicable to both the preparatory student and the experienced officer. Considerations When Selecting Courses

ADJ 168 is required for transfer. For the fully online option, ADJ 293 is required in lieu of ADJ 138.

  • Create a schedule for all required courses, pay attention to prerequisites and when courses are offered, complete your first math and English courses in your first year
  • Connect with an advisor at your community college and Southwest Virginia Community College within your first year via College Connect
Program Requirements Beyond Specific Courses The Department of Criminal Justice Services has the authority to deny certification to any applicant who does not meet the provisions of sections 15.2-1705 and 15.2-1706 of the Code of Virginia. Criminal Justice organizations to include law enforcement, corrections, and the State Bar Association are prohibited from hiring persons who have been convicted of certain criminal acts. Any person wishing to enter the Administration of Justice program who has committed any legal offenses including minor traffic violations should discuss options with the program head.This is especially pertinent for anyone with a drug use history. The cost of criminal background check, driving history, and drug testing will be the responsibility of the prior to application.
