Associate of Applied Science Degree in Early Childhood Development

Laurel Ridge Community College

Designed to provide professional development for people entering or presently employed in childcare charged with the care, development, and education of young children. This program also provides the foundation for transfer into a bachelor’s degree program for childcare professionals and potential Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 3 teachers. Possible occupations for graduates include program teachers and teaching assistants, leaders, supervisors, or directors in child development programs.

Considerations for Selecting Degree The education degree is designed for students who plan to transfer to a four-year college or university to complete their education in preparation for teacher licensure and employment as a teacher in a public or private school setting.
Considerations When Selecting Courses

  • Create a schedule for all required courses, pay attention to prerequisites and when courses are offered, complete your first math and English courses in your first year
  • Connect with an advisor at your community college and Laurel Ridge Community College within your first year via College Connect
Program Requirements Beyond Specific Courses This program is G3 eligible. IN-DEMAND credentials and education programs that are eligible for more funding than ever before through the G3 Scholarship. Some courses require an observation or practicum in a child care setting. Background checks, fingerprints, and TB screens may be required at the students expense.
Doing More With Your Degree This program transfers to some universities with a 2+2 leading to a Bachelors degree in Early Childhood Education with or without PreK-3 teacher licensure. See your advisor or check with your transfer institution.
