EDUC120: Educational Psychology And Human Development

This course is intended and required for prospective teacher candidates pursuing licensure in elementary, secondary, and special education. This course introduces prospective teacher candidates to typical child and adolescent development in areas such as cognitive, social, emotional, physical development in order to develop expectations and curriculum that is age-appropriate. Prospective candidates will review the latest research on the brain and learning and develop an understanding of student motivation. Prospective teacher candidates learn about the effects of family disruptions, substance abuse, trauma, child abuse, neglect and other adverse childhood experiences and how to help children build resilience.
