This course covers fundamental principles and scientific methods in psychology. Students will be introduced to a variety of disciplines within the field. Topics include the biological bases of behavior (nervous system structure and functions), sensation and perception, learning, as well as memory and other cognitive processes. Additional topics cover motivation and emotion, human development, personality, stress and health, psychological disorders and their treatment, and social psychology. Each topic will be discussed in relation to the application of the scientific method and research findings relevant to contemporary understanding of human behavior and mental processes.
